Blog Tour & ARC Review - Blood Orange by Karina Halle

Welcome to my stop for blog tour of Blood Orange by Karina Halle!

He’s loved her for lifetimes but this time around she’s his worst enemy.

Blood Orange, a wildly addictive, heat-filled dark vampire romance featuring Dracula from New York Times Bestselling author Karina Halle is out now!

Once there was a man who fell deeply in love with a woman he could never have. When their affair was uncovered she was brutally murdered in front of him, and he discovered he was cursed, doomed to live forever as a vampire.

Over the centuries, he found his love again, and lost her again, until he was so broken he gave up on love entirely, sinking into the depths of depravity, losing his humanity.

Then one day, she came back into his life. A student of music studying under him at the conservatory in Venice, Italy where he was a professor. But even though he found her beautiful and intriguing, he didn’t recognise his fated mate at all.

Because this time she had to hide her true self.

This time she came back as a witch, whose destiny wasn’t to love him…but to kill him.

Blood Orange is a modern-day Dracula retelling about the “real-life” Dracula that inspired Bram Stoker. This is a dark vampire romance with plenty of content warnings and while it is a spinoff of The Dark Eyes Duet, it is a complete standalone novel.

Review

Blood Orange is the first book in Dracula Duet and I think it has just become hands down the best Dracula retelling I’ve ever read. I’m speechless at how incredible it was and I’m still crying when I think about that ending, it was so perfect.

Dahlia is a witch and a vampire slayer. She comes to Venice with only one purpose: to kill Valtu Aminoff, the vampire known as the Dracula. She becomes his student at the conservatory and the more she gets to know him, the more she realizes he is not like the other vampires she met… and the more she feels attracted to this mysterious man. But what Dahlia doesn’t know is that she is the reincarnation of the only two women Valtu has ever loved and who were both brutally taken from him. With danger approaching, Dahlia and Val will need to fight to finally have a chance at a happy ending together.

First of all, I really like how Karina described vampires in Blood Orange, there are so many books about them, but she still managed to write them in an original and interesting way that kept me hooked. This is mostly a romance book and I absolutely love Dahlia and Val’s romance, they were both strong but also vulnerable with each other and I think we got the perfect balance of tender moments and spicy ones (Karina wasn’t kidding when she said it is her most spicy book 🌶). And I loved the flashbacks where we got to see Val with Mina and Lucy and their heartbreaking stories, I don’t want to give away any spoilers but I was crying when it all came together at the end of the book.

Blood Orange is an amazing story about love that transcends time with a refreshing take on vampires that I recommend to all paranormal romance lovers, I guarantee you won’t regret reading it, it really is that good. And now I don’t know how I’m supposed to wait for the second part of this duet, that ending was brutal and I can’t wait to see how Dahlia and Val’s story will end!

Keep reading for a look inside Blood Orange!

My body wants to bring him to my apartment. I’m craving his touch like nothing else. But I can’t. Not in the state I left it and not with a possible demon still inside. I can only hope it left through the open window; I assume that’s how it got in. But my knowledge of demons doesn’t go very far. I never thought I would have to deal with any of this.

“I have an exam tomorrow,” I suddenly blurt out.

He widens his eyes and nods, taking a step back, though his hand is still firmly holding onto mine. “So you do.” He clears his throat loudly. “I’m guessing you need to study.”

I’d rather study you, I think, but I nod. “Yeah. Thank god I didn’t leave it all to the last minute like I usually do.”

He sucks on his lower lip for a moment and I want nothing more than to kiss him again. “I’m sure you’ll pass,” he says.

“It’s not enough to pass,” I tell him. “I want to get a good grade.”

“I’m sure you’ll get a good grade,” he says in a knowing tone.

“Don’t you dare try to do me any favors,” I warn. “I need to get good grades on my own accord.”

“Help you? Wouldn’t dream of it.” He gives me a convincing smile. “Still, let me finish walking you home. I promise I’ll be out of your hair.”

So we walk hand-in-hand the rest of the way, until we’re standing outside my building.

“I’m going to go upstairs now,” I tell him.

He slides his hand around my lower back, holding me in place, while his other hand cups my jaw. “And I’m going to kiss you again.”

This time the press of his lips is so faint, so light, and yet it makes my knees tremble, my stomach to do summersaults. “Dahlia,” he says, murmuring against my mouth. “I don’t want you to be ashamed of your darkness. I don’t want you to be afraid of it. I am not a delicate man. I am brash, volatile, controlling and demanding and I always, always get what I want. What I want is your darkness to play with mine. I want to make it come so beautifully alive, so that we can revel in it together.”

He presses his lips to mine firmly then pulls away and I feel like I can’t breathe at all as he stares inches from my eyes. “I am choosing you. And if you accept me, there is no turning back.”

I try to swallow. “And what do I get out of it?” I whisper, my voice shaking slightly.

The corner of his mouth lifts in a smirk while his eyes narrow. “You get to feel things you’d only dreamed of feeling. You get to do things you were too afraid of doing. To live in the very darkness you run from. Isn’t that you want most of all? To be so pushed past the point of terror that you no longer fear anything at all?”

Holy shit.

“As I said,” he says gruffly, running his thumb over my lips, “I am not a delicate man. I can be rough. I can cause pain. I may make you hate me sometimes. But I will always be on your side. I will always make you feel chosen.”

I don’t know what the hell I’m agreeing to here but I’m nodding.

Because I have to.

Because I want you.

“Then choose me,” I say softly.

He leans in and kisses me on the cheek. “I already did. First day I laid eyes on you.”

ARC Review - The Wrong Bridesmaid by Lauren Landish

Thank you so much Amazon Montlake and Lauren Landish for sending me this beautiful book!

Title: The Wrong Bridesmaid
Author: Lauren Landish
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Series: Standalone
Pages: 300

Synopsis:

Opposites don’t just attract—they ignite—in a flirty against-all-odds romance by Wall Street Journal bestselling author Lauren Landish.

Wyatt Ford hightailed it out of Cold Springs to get away from his influential family and the unwanted privilege that came with it. Returning for his brother’s wedding dredges up every reason he left. One unexpected bright spot: a curvy knockout who slings burgers, hustles pool…and hates the last name Ford.

Hazel Sullivan is fiercely independent and happy to be maid of honor for her best friend’s wedding, but she isn’t looking for romance. Especially not with a man whose family is dividing her town into a battleground with their development plans. Fighting the family is easy. Fighting Wyatt? Not so much. Why does the enemy have to be so drop-dead gorgeous?

The sparks that fly between Hazel and Wyatt might start out as combat, but one kiss and it’s total surrender. How is a happy ever after even possible for two people with so little in common? Except, of course, for an overwhelming attraction and that growing temptation to say “I do” themselves.

Review & thoughts:

The Wrong Bridesmaid is the newest rom com from Lauren Landish coming October 25th and while I always enjoy reading her books I think this might be my new favorite of hers!

Wyatt hasn’t been in contact with his family for a few years, but when his brother asks him to come to his wedding, he knows he can’t refuse. Wyatt has a simple plan: attend the wedding and then leave the town as soon as possible, but what he doesn’t expect is Hazel, to whom he is instantly attracted, but who hates his entire family, himself included. Hazel soon realizes Wyatt and his siblings are not like the rest of their family, but when their dad’s and uncle’s plans for the town come to light, Wyatt and Hazel will need to decide if they can be together or if they will let their families drive them apart.

I was so excited to start this book as soon as I got it and I read it in one sitting! I loved Hazel and Wyatt’s first meeting and after that I couldn’t wait for their scenes together, they were hilarious and I loved their enemies to lovers, slow burn, cute (and spicy) romance. I liked the wedding aspect of the story and then the family drama kept it even more interesting, I couldn’t wait to see how everything would be resolved. Despite their not so perfect family, I really liked the Ford siblings, especially Wren was a really interesting character and I would love it if she would get her own book.

The Wrong Bridesmaid is a really entertaining book and it comes out in 3 weeks which makes it perfect for a lazy autumn afternoon read. I always love Lauren Landish’s romantic comedies and already can’t wait to read what she writes next!

Review & thoughts:

Court of Blood and Bindings is the first book in a new fantasy romance series by Lisette Marshall. It’s the first book I’ve read by this author and now I need to read all her books because this one is simply amazing!

Both of Emelin’s parents are humans so she spent her whole life hiding and hating her magic, thinking something is wrong with her. When her home and the island where she lived all her life are destroyed and all humans flee, Emelin is kidnapped by Silent Death, Mother’s assassin and the most feared man in the world. Having no other choice, she agrees to work with him in exchange for protection. But Emelin quickly realizes Creon might not be the monster everyone believes him to be, and the more they work together, the more she finds herself unable to control her growing infatuation.

Let me begin by saying I’m 100% in love with Creon, he is now one of my favorite book boyfriends! I know we are supposed to hate him at first for all the terrible things he did, but as soon as I met him I knew he would be my favorite character, I’m a sucker for a tortured, morally grey MMC. I loved his and Em’s relationship, they had a beautiful slow burn romance and I’m almost sure it was a case of hero-falls-first which is one of my favorite tropes. Court of Blood and Bindings actually has most of my favorite tropes (enemies to lovers, forced proximity, morally grey MMC, strong and badass heroine, touch her and die) so it’s no surprise it became one of my favorite books!

In addition to amazing romance, I really liked the magic system, it was one of the most unique I’ve ever read about, the idea of magic based on colors was really interesting and I can’t wait to find out more about it in the next books. The court politics were also really fascinating and the Mother must be one of the most unusual characters I’ve ever seen.

I absolutely love Court of Blood and Bindings, it is a gripping story with my favorite kind of romance and fascinating plot that will leave you wanting more! Now I can’t wait for the sequel, after that ending it can’t come soon enough!
