Review & thoughts:

Heart of the Sun Warrior is the second book in The Celestial Kingdom Duology. I fell in love with this world the author created and her writhing style when I first read Daughter of the Moon Goddess but I loved this amazing sequel even more and I’m already missing these characters.

Heart of the Sun Warrior begins a year after the ending of the first book and immediately draws us in with even more action, shocking revelations and beautiful relationships. I’m not going to go into details to avoid spoilers, but I can easily say this book exceeded all my expectations. I loved reading more about Xingyin, Liwei and Wenzhi, their adventures and struggles and honestly everything about them, I loved how the author gave more depth to their love triangle and didn’t make it easy to choose which one of them I wanted Xingyin to end up with. I think the love triangle was resolved in the most perfect way I could hope for (if you think you know how it’s going to end and you’re ready - you don’t and you aren’t).

I’m also once again in awe of the author’s writing style, it is so unique and makes this book read like a fairytale (which I really liked!). Like the first book, this one was also full of action that kept me on the edge of my seat and some of the plot twists and revelations made me gasp out loud, I was really not expecting some things to happen and I loved it.

Heart of the Sun Warrior is a really great conclusion to this amazing duology, I loved all the characters and the ending made me smile through my tears, it was just such a perfect ending to this incredible story. I can’t wait to see what the author writes next!

ARC Review - The Syren's Mutiny by Jessica S. Taylor

Thank you so much Jessica S. Taylor and BOMM for this ARC!

Title: The Syren's Mutiny
Author: Jessica S. Taylor
Genre: Fantasy Romance
Series: The Syren's Mutiny (book #1)
Pages: 480

Synopsis:

“It’s frightful bad luck to have a woman aboard.”

Brigid knew the superstition, but when her father tried to marry her off, she had no choice but to stowaway on a ship bound for Bhodheas. When she’s discovered and discarded, her fate seems sealed…until she’s saved by the ocean and its queen.

Transformed into a syren and given new life, Brigid now has the power to seek revenge on those who wronged her.

Caelum has spent his entire life trying to help those who couldn’t help themselves. After years suffering the cruelty of his pirate father, saving others from a similar fate was ingrained in him. But when he’s unable to save a young girl from being thrown overboard for hiding away, he’s devastated.

Until one day, when he’s thrown into the water by unforeseen forces, he comes face to face with the past, and maybe, with his future.

But there’s a darkness lurking on the seas they both call home. And Caelum and Brigid have no idea just how intertwined their stories really are.

Review & thoughts:

The Syren’s Mutiny is Jessica‘s debut novel and the first book in her New Adult Fantasy Romance duology. It’s a refreshing take on the pirate/siren story and had me hooked since the first page!

After being thrown overboard Brigid became a syren, serving her queen and killing sailors with other syrens. When she is asked to kill the one man who tried to save her years ago, Brigid decides to help him instead, which results in grave consequences to her. Unable to return home, Brigid joins Caelum and his crew on their mission, during which she learns secrets about syrens and humans that will change her world forever.

OMG guys, this book is so good! Brigid is my favorite kind of FMC: badass, stubborn, not afraid to say what she thinks and more than a little stabby. She goes through amazing journey here, learning how to be a human again and I honestly loved everything about her and, of course, her relationship with Caelum. They had a slow burn romance, but you could see their attraction since the moment they met and it was so worth the wait when they finally got together. Caelum is the perfect book boyfriend and that’s all I’m going to say for now, everyone should meet him for themselves. And I really liked the members of his crew and how loyal and good friends they were, hope to see even more of them and their banter in the next book.

I also really enjoyed how the syrens were portrayed here, it was really unique and I can’t remember when I last enjoyed a book about them so much. The author created a really interesting world and I can’t wait to return to it when the next book comes out.

The Syren’s Mutiny is a really good fantasy romance book and I can’t believe it’s the author’s debut, it is so well written and I didn’t find a single thing I didn’t like about it. Also, that ending almost gave me a heart attack, there is a really good cliffhanger and I’m dying to read the next part of this amazing story!

A fantasy world you will want to explore with a chosen one, mythology, and romance.

Review & thoughts:

Empress of the Gods is the first book in The Night Flame Chronicles coming November 8th and if you like fantasy romance books you definitely don’t want to miss this one!

Atarah is a driadae living with her sister and their adoptive mother among the witches. When one day a tragedy strikes, Atarah and her sister must leave their home and family and run from those who wish them harm. But when they are separated and the only one who can help Atarah find her sister is a hunter who spend his entire life killing magical creatures, she will need to go on a journey and discover some secrets and hidden truths about herself that will change her life forever.

I must admit it took me a bit to become fully engrossed in this story but once I did I couldn’t stop reading, the world building was so fascinating and I just had to know what was going to happen to these amazing characters. I really like Atarah, she annoyed me a little in the beginning but she grew a lot in this book and I can’t wait to read more about her adventures. The cute enemies to lovers romance was really well written and after that ending I need to know what is going to happen to them ASAP, I can’t believe it ended this way! I also really liked the secondary characters, especially Myrah and Elysia, can’t wait to get to know more about them.

I really enjoyed Empress of the Gods, it is a great fantasy romance with really interesting world and shocking plot twists that will leave you wanting more. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!

ARC Review - Where Oceans Burn by Casey L. Bond

Thank you Casey L. Bond for this ARC!

Title: Where Oceans Burn
Author: Casey L. Bond
Genre: Fantasy Romance
Series: Where Oceans Burn (book #1)
Pages: 467

Synopsis:

With these three virtues, we shall rise. With these three, we shall conquer.

Truth. Honor. Blood.

To my people, the sky-reigning Empyreans, Intention Day is sacred…

Truth…
To me, it’s the day my carefully crafted lie crumbles and my truth gives way to my ruin. The intense power surging through my veins is revealed, immediately coveted by those eager to exploit me for what they deem a greater good. If they have their way, the future I long for will be ripped away. But I am a warrior born to fly. To fight. Not to be caged and controlled.

The great scale of the goddess Neera has tipped out of my favor. The pans teeter between weighty punishment and deadly opportunity. My choices? Capture my most formidable enemy before next Intention Day, or forfeit my wings.

Honor…
But life’s loftiest plans are often a breath away from disaster, and tragedy strikes as unpredictably as a bolt of lightning. When I find myself at the mercy of my greatest enemy, the terror known as the Shark of the Sea, the monster who killed the person I loved most, I accept my fate. My death. But the Shark does not lash out in revenge for all I’ve done. He tells me his true name is Crest. And while he calls me a Scourge, he honors his orders to guard me.

Blood…
Forced together, Crest reveals that the truth only exists in the place between our perspectives and shares his hope to garner peace before the land is further soaked with the blood of sky and sea. The longer I am among his kind, the more I wonder if he might be right. Could an alliance be the salvation of both our peoples?

I am Elira, great Scourge of the Sky.
He is Crest, cunning Shark of the Sea.
Together… we could be unstoppable.

Review & thoughts:

Where Oceans Burn is a new fantasy romance book from Casey L. Bond and having read most of her books I can easily say it’s definitely my new favorite of hers!

Elira is part of Empyreans, people with wings who consider the sky their home and spend their whole lives fighting their enemies who live in the sea. When on a sacred day her blood reveals a dangerous secret she was hiding her whole life, she is given one year to capture her greatest enemy or risk a fate worse than death. But when a tragedy strikes and Elira finds herself at the mercy of the very people she spent her whole life hating, will she be able to make peace with her new situation and the Shark of the Sea who seems not to be the monster she believed him to be, or will her hatred win?

I am absolutely in love with the world building in Where Oceans Burn, the idea of people of the sky and people of the sea who have so different cultures and who hate each other was so amazing and well written, I am in awe of how the author created such a fascinating world. Both fractions of people have such good reasons to wage this war and while we think we can say who the villains are, everything is in shades of grey here and I can’t wait to see how it will all be sorted out.

Elira is an amazing FMC, she annoyed me a bit at the beginning of the book, but she grew so much and was so strong when her whole world was falling apart she quickly became my favorite character! I always love an enemies to lovers romance and this one did not disappoint, my only complaint can be that I would love to see more of Elira and Crest, but I guess we will get more of them in the next book and I already can’t wait!

I really enjoyed Where Oceans Burn and already can’t wait to read the sequel, definitely recommend it to all YA fantasy romance lovers!

I could now see him for exactly who he was. So why can’t I get his alluring touch out of my head?

I am the key to saving his kingdom, but he alone has the power to ruin me.

Review & thoughts:

A Kingdom of Blood and Betrayal is the second book in the Stars and Shadows series and OMG I’m obsessed with those books! I thought I loved the first book but the second one was so insanely good I think I love it even more!

A Kingdom of Blood and Betrayal begins right where A Kingdom of Stars and Shadows ended and immediately throws us in the middle of action. It was perfectly balanced with fast-paced action scenes and romantic ones between our favorite couple, Adara and Evren. I really liked Evren in AKOSAS, but here we learn more about him and watching him with Adara made me love him even more, he quickly became one of my favorite book boyfriends. They have such an amazing romance and I simply loved them together, the banter and of course the spicy scenes were perfectly written.

We also learn more about this fascinating world the author created and meet more secondary characters, I especially liked Thalia and Sorin and hope we will get to see more of them in the next books.

I really enjoyed both books in this series and now I can’t wait for the next one because OMG that ending! Holly definitely knows how to torture us with those cliffhangers, the next book can’t come soon enough!

Blog Tour & ARC Review - Blood Orange by Karina Halle

Welcome to my stop for blog tour of Blood Orange by Karina Halle!

He’s loved her for lifetimes but this time around she’s his worst enemy.

Blood Orange, a wildly addictive, heat-filled dark vampire romance featuring Dracula from New York Times Bestselling author Karina Halle is out now!

Once there was a man who fell deeply in love with a woman he could never have. When their affair was uncovered she was brutally murdered in front of him, and he discovered he was cursed, doomed to live forever as a vampire.

Over the centuries, he found his love again, and lost her again, until he was so broken he gave up on love entirely, sinking into the depths of depravity, losing his humanity.

Then one day, she came back into his life. A student of music studying under him at the conservatory in Venice, Italy where he was a professor. But even though he found her beautiful and intriguing, he didn’t recognise his fated mate at all.

Because this time she had to hide her true self.

This time she came back as a witch, whose destiny wasn’t to love him…but to kill him.

Blood Orange is a modern-day Dracula retelling about the “real-life” Dracula that inspired Bram Stoker. This is a dark vampire romance with plenty of content warnings and while it is a spinoff of The Dark Eyes Duet, it is a complete standalone novel.

Review

Blood Orange is the first book in Dracula Duet and I think it has just become hands down the best Dracula retelling I’ve ever read. I’m speechless at how incredible it was and I’m still crying when I think about that ending, it was so perfect.

Dahlia is a witch and a vampire slayer. She comes to Venice with only one purpose: to kill Valtu Aminoff, the vampire known as the Dracula. She becomes his student at the conservatory and the more she gets to know him, the more she realizes he is not like the other vampires she met… and the more she feels attracted to this mysterious man. But what Dahlia doesn’t know is that she is the reincarnation of the only two women Valtu has ever loved and who were both brutally taken from him. With danger approaching, Dahlia and Val will need to fight to finally have a chance at a happy ending together.

First of all, I really like how Karina described vampires in Blood Orange, there are so many books about them, but she still managed to write them in an original and interesting way that kept me hooked. This is mostly a romance book and I absolutely love Dahlia and Val’s romance, they were both strong but also vulnerable with each other and I think we got the perfect balance of tender moments and spicy ones (Karina wasn’t kidding when she said it is her most spicy book 🌶). And I loved the flashbacks where we got to see Val with Mina and Lucy and their heartbreaking stories, I don’t want to give away any spoilers but I was crying when it all came together at the end of the book.

Blood Orange is an amazing story about love that transcends time with a refreshing take on vampires that I recommend to all paranormal romance lovers, I guarantee you won’t regret reading it, it really is that good. And now I don’t know how I’m supposed to wait for the second part of this duet, that ending was brutal and I can’t wait to see how Dahlia and Val’s story will end!

Keep reading for a look inside Blood Orange!

My body wants to bring him to my apartment. I’m craving his touch like nothing else. But I can’t. Not in the state I left it and not with a possible demon still inside. I can only hope it left through the open window; I assume that’s how it got in. But my knowledge of demons doesn’t go very far. I never thought I would have to deal with any of this.

“I have an exam tomorrow,” I suddenly blurt out.

He widens his eyes and nods, taking a step back, though his hand is still firmly holding onto mine. “So you do.” He clears his throat loudly. “I’m guessing you need to study.”

I’d rather study you, I think, but I nod. “Yeah. Thank god I didn’t leave it all to the last minute like I usually do.”

He sucks on his lower lip for a moment and I want nothing more than to kiss him again. “I’m sure you’ll pass,” he says.

“It’s not enough to pass,” I tell him. “I want to get a good grade.”

“I’m sure you’ll get a good grade,” he says in a knowing tone.

“Don’t you dare try to do me any favors,” I warn. “I need to get good grades on my own accord.”

“Help you? Wouldn’t dream of it.” He gives me a convincing smile. “Still, let me finish walking you home. I promise I’ll be out of your hair.”

So we walk hand-in-hand the rest of the way, until we’re standing outside my building.

“I’m going to go upstairs now,” I tell him.

He slides his hand around my lower back, holding me in place, while his other hand cups my jaw. “And I’m going to kiss you again.”

This time the press of his lips is so faint, so light, and yet it makes my knees tremble, my stomach to do summersaults. “Dahlia,” he says, murmuring against my mouth. “I don’t want you to be ashamed of your darkness. I don’t want you to be afraid of it. I am not a delicate man. I am brash, volatile, controlling and demanding and I always, always get what I want. What I want is your darkness to play with mine. I want to make it come so beautifully alive, so that we can revel in it together.”

He presses his lips to mine firmly then pulls away and I feel like I can’t breathe at all as he stares inches from my eyes. “I am choosing you. And if you accept me, there is no turning back.”

I try to swallow. “And what do I get out of it?” I whisper, my voice shaking slightly.

The corner of his mouth lifts in a smirk while his eyes narrow. “You get to feel things you’d only dreamed of feeling. You get to do things you were too afraid of doing. To live in the very darkness you run from. Isn’t that you want most of all? To be so pushed past the point of terror that you no longer fear anything at all?”

Holy shit.

“As I said,” he says gruffly, running his thumb over my lips, “I am not a delicate man. I can be rough. I can cause pain. I may make you hate me sometimes. But I will always be on your side. I will always make you feel chosen.”

I don’t know what the hell I’m agreeing to here but I’m nodding.

Because I have to.

Because I want you.

“Then choose me,” I say softly.

He leans in and kisses me on the cheek. “I already did. First day I laid eyes on you.”
